By the Rivers of Babylonstoren...
If I had my druthers, I would probably spend every day at Babylonstoren. Lunch at the Greenhouse is beyond a treat, as every morsel is either hand-picked or freshly squeezed from the garden. Not to mention, delectable cheeses from the fromagerie and meats from the charcuterie. So, when my sister-in-law and daughter came to the Cape from Down Under, we made a bee-line for the Winelands...

Buried...
Up to my eyeballs in a box-and-wrapping-paper tsunami (forgive the weird metaphors). Wish I was curled up in a corner of the conservatory below, with a thick book instead!

Babylonstoren, South Africa (Encore)
Ever-evolving, this marvelous escape-from-reality in the Cape has added more sensory and culinary experiences and even managed to eclipse its previous perfection....

5 Beekman
Apparently, the collective hearts of those in-the-know broke a little bit when hotelier Andre Balazs' deal to purchase decayed urban treasure 5 Beekman Street (just a block from City Hall) fell through early this year. But all are a twitter that a new joint venture partnership has purchased the building at a whopper of a price, and one of the partners is the owner of the Ace Hotel. Looks like all the finger crossing paid off...

Our House at the end of our Street (VIII)
What do you get when you combine a terrarium and a kitchen? Sheer bliss. This is our favorite room in the house: our kitchen. Yet, when we bought our home in 2005, it was not fit for consumption. Fast-forward two years - floor-to-ceiling windows were installed to replace floor-to-ceiling vinyl (the latter being responsible for instant indigestion). And not a minute too soon. Today, this is where we eat, cook and do homework, plus discuss the day's trials and tribulations while enjoying a slightly voyeuristic view of the urban promenade...
And two gratuitous views into the dining-room, as the light was perfect....
