A client, of British interior designer Harriet Anstruther, once said this about her work:

She knows the importance of the quality of small things; a handle on a door, a switch on a wall. Neues Museum, Berlin...

I would hazard a guess that original architect, Friedrich August Stüler, (1800-1865) would approve of the recent restoration of the exquisitely-appointed Neues Museum in Berlin. Extensive bombing during the Second World War left the building in ruins, with entire sections missing completely and others severely damaged. The building was abandoned for decades, and restoration was only decided upon in 1985. British architect, David Chipperfield, is responsible for overseeing the reconstruction of the Neues Museum. A project which extends into 2015...

Palazzo Orlandi

Built in the sixteenth century, the glorious Palazzo Orlandi in Prato (near Florence) has undergone a painstakingly thoughtful restoration. During the extensive rehabilitation by Sabrina Bignami, the main focus was to restore the house to its original bones (all additions made in the early 1900's were removed). Bignami also discovered that all the frescos on the first floor had been covered in white paint. Today, the 'noble floor' houses private quarters and a small, exclusive guesthouse...
