On approach, one could easily mistake the dramatic silhouette in the distance to be a castle of Hans Christian Andersen proportions. However, it is actually a disused water tower outside Dordrecht, which is now home to this fabulous hotel. On the very same spot which once hosted expansive water basins, several lush gardens have been created by the new proprietors (including a berry garden, an Italian garden and… a secret garden). The original pumping station has since been converted into an organic restaurant which draws from the abundant produce of the encircling gardens. One of the prize accommodations is a room situated at the top of the tower, where one has a panoramic view of the Biesbosch wetlands. On a clear day, one can see as far as Rotterdam… heaven?
