Le flâneur
In the words of Edmund White (in his wonderful book ‘The Flâneur – A Stroll through the Paradoxes of Paris’):
“Paris is the great city of the Flâneur – that aimless stroller who loses himself in the crowd, who has no destination and goes wherever caprice or curiosity directs his or her steps”.
Once or twice, I opted out of museum visits because my greatest desire was to wander with no expectation – just smell, taste, watch and generally experience Paris through osmosis…
