Besides being an additional surface on which to arrange much loved objects (added bonus – out of reach from grubby little hands), it is the marble veins and the intricate carvings that I love most. Fashioned and molded into sensual silhouettes in bas-relief by master craftsman all those years ago. (On another note: how about a bit of giant lamp love – in the pic with the teal-ish turquoise Chesterfield sofa).
